Avoid putting cash into an online casino without research
« on: March 31, 2012, 03:25:24 AM »

This doesn't happen now as much as it used to but you still should be careful.  In some jurisdictions, it's very easy to put up an online gambling site so the operators aren't checked out thoroughly.  They take in a bunch of deposits and then disappear.  A week later, they open a new site under a new name and do it all again.  Don't put your cash into a place that you don't know of real users getting paid out.

I properly research any sites I visit, for games or even a social site. There have been a ton of scammer places cropping up lately, it seems like more and more are added each week. I try to stay ahead of the scams and avoid them at all costs.

I understand researching anything involving money but I'm not following having to research social sites.  If there is no money involved, how could you get scammed by joining a social website?

If the site is a scam, how do you know if there really are real players or if they are fake? Is there a way to tell? What are some things to look out for and how?

This is very good advice, not just for casinos, but for the online world in general.  Unfortunately many scams exist for quite awhile before the general public gets wind of them, and new fraudulent sites pop up everyday.

It's just naive to assume whatever you sign up for online is safe.  An online casino should be treated no differently than anywhere else where you enter your credit card online.

@Redhots: I'd say a shady design, a lack of https, incomplete information, and unverifiable safety certificates are all red flags.

@winner: You could still get scammed at free sites if you enter your real personal info.
