Knowing when to stop
« on: March 29, 2012, 11:50:46 PM »

Do you know how and when to stop when playing any sort of gambling games? What are your tips or suggestions? I'm afraid I may start to have a problem with this.

What I do and recommend to others is to set yourself a monetary limit.  Like when I go to the casino, I take a certain amount in cash and leave my debit card at home so I can't access more.  For online, you just have to have willpower but if you always keep in mind a budget for what you can afford, you'll do fine.

What, you mean you don't just play until you run out of money?  Don't worry, I'm just kidding.  I may be new to online slots but not to gambling in general.  I always plan how much an evening will cost me and if I hit my cap, I go have something to eat and stop gambling.

Well this certainly does beg the question of knowing when to stop. I generally have WAY less control online than at the casino.  I have no access to any more money than I physically take with me to a casino. In my bedroom - all the online funds are instantly available. I just have to stop, like WINNER said, and shut down the computer. That's the only way I know!

For me its when my mood changes, if I am no longer having fun then I know its time to pack up and move on. For me its all about the game and enjoying it, if I can win thats great but when my mood drops its not worth it anymore.

If I play with a $100, I will stop playing if I have a win of $50 or more. Or I use a stop loss, if I lose $50 then I stop playing. This is what I do, and it helps me to know when to stop. I basically use this method with a lot of investing type stuff, too.
